Mt Manaslu Expedition

Mt Manaslu Expedition

Mt. Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world with 8,163m altitude. It lies on the border between Gorkha and Manang districts in the Northern part of Nepal. It is considered as the high peak of Gorkha Massif. It is situated around the 40 miles east of Mt. Annapurna (the tenth highest mountain in the world). The name Manaslu is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘manasa’ which stands for the mountain of the spirit. There are three peaks in Mt. Manaslu and People considered these peaks as Japanese Peak. The first ascent to Mt. Manaslu was made by Japanese expedition team on May 9, 1956. This mountain is mostly ascended by Japanese expedition team during 1952 to 1956 and still today it is frequently climbed by the Japanese. It is for this reason; this mountain is also called Japanese Mountain.

Manaslu area was restricted for the trekkers until 1991. When trekking in this area was permitted in 1991, only the limited number of groups and prearranged trekkers was acceptable to trek in this area. This area earns more popularity despite the remote field in its periphery along with its difficult rescue.

There exist different routes to Mt. Manaslu. The long ridges and the valley glaciers in the Mountain make possible for the climber to ascend it from all directions.
