TAAN organizes tree plantation program in Kavresthali

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2013, Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized a tree plantation program at Alleban in Kavresthali VDC-9 on June 5.

Around 500 saplings of different tree species were planted in Alleban Devisthan Martyrs Memorial Park.

More than 100 people, including TAAN executive committee members, staffers, representatives of different trekking agencies, officials of Alleban Devisthan Martyrs Memorial Park Management Committee, members of local Ama Samuha and locals, participated in the program.

The program was organized with the support of Alleban Devisthan Martyrs Memorial Park Management Committee.

Speaking at the program, TAAN General Secretary Mohan Lamsal said the plantation program is a part of TAAN's initiative in making tourism sustainable. "We have been organizing various programs on the occasion of World Environment Day for the past many years," he said, adding: "Along with this plantation program we have also organized clean up campaign in Everest Region. A team from TAAN recently returned from the Everest Region after collecting garbage along the main trail to the Everest Base Camp."

He also promised necessary support and cooperation to the locals for conservation of the plantation site.

Prakash Sharma, secretary of Kavresthali VDC, thanked TAAN for choosing Alleban for plantation program.

Similarly, Badri Chapagain, chairman of Alleban Devisthan Martyrs Memorial Park Management Committee, assured TAAN officials that the committee would look after the plantation site.

Jangbu Sherpa, senior vice president of TAAN and Krishna Raj Bhattarai, coordinator of Sustainable, Responsible and Eco Tourism Department of TAAN, also spoke on the occasion.
