Gorkha Village Tour

Gorkha hill town is situated an altitude of 1135m, about 145 km west of Kathmandu valley and 60 km east of Pokhara. Around 300 years ago, Nepal was divided in to 50 tiny states, and Gorkha was one of them. Later, the king of Shaha Dynasty, King Prithivi Narayan Shaha unified states into one kingdom. The king had made his palace on the top of a hill that the king would watch-over his people as far as his eyes could see from the tallest hill. Gorkha is also the home of Gurkhas, they fought with knives against guns. Gorkha palace is the main attraction, an hour steep of 1700s steps walk up a hill. The palace was built in the Newari Style of Kathmandu. Apart from the palace, there is Kali Temple, which is dedicated to the goddess Kali, the destructive incarnation of Parvati. During the ceremony, many animals are sacrificed and rituals take place in the courtyard in front of the temple. Within the palace is the sacred Taleju temple of the king's family. In southern part of the palace, there is a religious cave of lord Gorakhanath. If the weather is clear, you can see spectacular view of Mt. Manaslu, Himchuli as well as panoramic view of the green valleys around the Gorkha.
